Golden Hour Mini Session | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

Ohmygoodness, what a beautiful Fall season of family sessions we had towards the end of 2018! I’m finally getting caught up on blogging more from October-November and I had to share this one.

This was my first time with this sweet family, and I was pretty obsessed with the kiddos hair! Check out that gorgeous red…wish I could bottle that color. We had a fun afternoon in Chesapeake and that golden Fall light was just perfection. Here are just a few favorites of our time together!

Gimme all the snuggle shots!

Such a blast - I love meeting new families! My Winter and Spring calendar is starting to fill up and I’d love to see you. Drop me a note here or email me at eammonsphotos@gmail.com for best availability. :)

First Birthday and Family Session! | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

There’s nothing sweeter than getting to watch my littlest clients grow up! All these precious newborns who are now toddlers, but still have the same expressions they did when they were brand new. It always amazes me how fast they grow.

I love getting to catch up with parents and document the first birthday. There’s lot of ways to capture this milestone, and sometimes that just looks like an outdoor mini session! Check out this gorgeous little redhead and her smitten Mom and Dad. :)

A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.

Little Island Park Sunset | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

It’s that time of year! Beach sessions are wrapping up and pretty soon temps will be dropping here in Virginia Beach. It has been an incredible season of family, maternity and newborn sessions. We’ve made memories, played and laughed. It has been so good for my soul!

If you don’t want to miss out on 2019 beach session slots, sign up for the EAP family newsletter for first dibs! I only send out emails regarding availability, mini session signups aaaannd the occasional treat. :)

This seemed to be the year where the couples I photographed were very similar to me and my husband. I’ve captured two couples who were celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary. We just met that mark last June! I’ve worked with families that attend our church, are navy brats and are also obsessed with sloths. Clearly, we had a LOT to discuss, haha!

Here are just a few favorites from my night last week with the Finney family! How cute are these little girls?!

Brock Environmental Center Sunset Session | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

Many of you will recognize this sweet family, but if you're new around here...you should know this is session number FIVE. I have watched them grow, have babies and chase toddlers. And now they are preparing to send their oldest daughter to Kindergarten this year. *sob*

Chris and Lacey are dear friends and it gives me so.much.joy to know my images are hanging in their house. It's been a year of change for them and I'm grateful these happy memories have been captured!

If you haven't had a chance to explore Brock Environmental Center, I highly recommend checking it out. The endless trails, wildlife and amazing sunset was the perfect setting for us!

Oh, this family. Where do I even start?

Such sweet friends that are moving -again- because that military life, ya'll. I could write about a zillion words on this fabulous crew, but instead - how about some fun, quick facts? ;)

1. Abigail and I are both ENFPs married to ISTJs. We laugh about this and swap hysterical stories all. the. time. These men are so very patient, ha!

2. I met her when we were both young, newly married English teachers back in 2006. :)

3. Watching our kids play together is probably one of the sweetest gifts of our friendship.

Aaaaand I'll stop here, because #feelings!

We chased some gorgeous light this night in Virginia Beach and I am so in love with all of these images. They love these sweet kiddos so well, and it's always such a joy to watch each of their unique personalities shine.

When was the last time you were photographed with your kids? Even if they have outgrown your lap, can I encourage you to get in front of the camera with them?

They deserve to see images of their Mom. They deserve to see your love for them pour out of a picture.

Friends, my Summer schedule is just about full! A handful of weeknight slots are available.

EAP is booking into mid-October and I'm so thankful! If weekends are ideal for your family's schedule, please contact me soon and we'll get you on the calendar!

Golden Hour at the Beach! | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

Meeting new families gives me so much joy! My little extrovert self is so uplifted by hearing their stories. This adorable family have only been in Virginia Beach a short time, but are loving it already!

We had a blast chasing the sunset and their sweet little one-year-old at the Virginia Beach oceanfront last weekend. He was probably the happiest baby I have every photographed! True, I say this often, LOL! But seriously, he was nothing but smiles and so excited to explore/eat/dig the sand with Mom and Dad. ;)

Gah, SO excited for all the beach sessions on my calendar!!

3 Outfit Tips for Cooler Days | Hampton Roads Family Photographer

Don't worry, I haven't decided to become a fashion blogger, haha! BUT, I do know the temps are dropping and families (okay, mainly Moms because #realtalk) often ask me for advice on how to dress their families for a session.

Luckily, we still have mild and even some warm days ahead here in Hampton Roads. November and December outdoor sessions are certainly cooler, so be sure to plan accordingly! Because nobody likes to be cold - especially the kiddos. Here are some tips on how you can dress to keep everyone cozy and toasty!

1. Layer it up. Dress littles in several, warm layers underneath their 'fancier' clothes. Thermal long johns, leggings and thick socks will keep the wind from cutting right through their top layers. Opt for a cute puffer vest, tailored jacket or fleece-lined pants. Remember, fit matters in photos so avoid anything too big or bulky. I usually buy winter coats a size larger so my girls will use them for two Winters, but they are not the best choice for pictures. Save your receipts and watch the forecast! Shop ahead and return anything you don't end up needing. #MomHack

2. Accessorize smartly. Hats, beanies, mittens, gloves, scarves, earmuffs, capes - the options are endless for everyone in the family. In my experience, kids often complain of cold wind on their hands and ears. Keeping those two covered during a chilly session will be well worth it. Plus, there is SO much cute stuff out there! Hit up Target or Old Navy and grab some color coordinated options juuuust in case.

3. Include a cozy blanket and/or use your surroundings. Have a favorite family blanket or quilt? Bring it along! Some of my favorite images are ones where everyone is snuggled up together. :) Also, position yourself in a location with tall trees or buildings. This will cut down on the cold wind whipping through and leaving everyone exposed in the open.

Try your best to keep everyone comfy and then get some hot cocoa/tea after! Starbucks stop on the way home? Totally been there :)

Stay cozy, friends! xoxo

Fall Sunset at Stumpy Lake | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

Oh, Fall. Stay awhile - won't you?

The light, the colors, the fluffy tall grass - I am smitten, you guys.

I was so honored this sweet family reached out to me for a session. They'd been with a photographer for years who had recently moved, so I know it takes some serious trust to book somebody new. We get comfy with our people and change can be tricky.

But, let me tell you something that makes me love my job even more.

After about 5 minutes, they felt like old friends. We were swapping Halloween costume choices, birthday party themes and the joys of being five-years-old. It's like SO much better than being four - am I right?! They were so natural and laid back together, and I loved witnessing their unique relationships together. And Ms. Emerie was ready to direct and pose - I think I might need to hire her as my littlest assistant you guys, LOL! About ten minutes in, she requested I should "take a picture of just Mommy and Daddy and I will watch!" I mean - really? #meltmyheart

Thank you so much for the recent influx of inquiries, I am trying my very best to work my calendar to serve some awesome families! I will officially be done with 2017 sessions by the 2nd week in December (not including newborns that are coming - yay!). If you've reached out recently, please follow up soon. Thank you, friends! xoxo

September Sunset at Little Island Park | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

Parenthood can pull at our heartstrings like nothing else. This ride of loving little people while still pursuing a career, personal goals, friendships and nurturing a marriage is a WILD one. Plus, there's no training or guide book - so most days we're just winging it. Can you relate?

This family is about to be separated due to work commitments, and Mom wanted to sneak in a photo session. I imagine her looking at these images while being miles apart from her babies. It yanks at my heart. I am grateful that the weather cooperated and we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset session at Little Island Park in Virginia Beach!

This was my second session with these cuties and they are so full of personality! Which is really how I prefer it. ;)

I loved the way little sis kept tugging on her Dad's beard! She was feeling shy and it helped comfort her - so sweet. And luckily, she didn't tug too hard - haha ;)

Adventure is worthwhile in itself.

The 'C' Family at Pleasure House Point | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

On occasion, I will meet a family that has never enjoyed having professional pictures taken. Sometimes it's been years since wedding pictures or hospital newborn pics, so I'm even more excited when we meet! I love that they have trusted me with this job and I don't take it lightly.

The work of booking a session, getting outfits chosen, hair combed and noses wiped is a big job. Once you show up at a session, it's my hope you can relax and just enjoy your time! I understand the struggles.

And this party of six - well, they were amazing. THE most well-behaved, joyful and polite kids I've seen. Mom and Dad, you are doing an amazing job. Teach us the ways or write a book - please!

We explored Pleasure House Point while collecting snail shells and rocks. It was a perfectly cool, early Fall evening in Virginia Beach!

The most precious jewels you’ll ever have around your neck are the arms of your children...

These two brothers were the best of pals! I did not have to ask them to hold hands, they just fell into this pose naturally. The sweetest thing.

Friends, there are just a handful of dates left for 2017! I'm booking into early 2018, so it's never too early to reach out. Contact me today, I'd love to meet your family! :)
